John is an Optometrist who completed his Ophthalmic training at Glasgow Caledonian University in 2000 and registered with the General Optical Council in 2001. Prior to this he qualified as a Pharmacist graduating from the Sunderland School of Pharmacy in 1990 and practiced as a Pharmacist until completion of his Optometry degree. John is the current Optometric Advisor for Dumfries and Galloway Health Board.
John has a wealth of experience in Optometry and has a special interest in children's eyecare and pathology of the eye. John continued to study and gained a higher qualification in Independent Prescribing in 2016. This is one of the highest further qualifications a UK Optometrist can achieve. This enables John to prescribe medication for the eyes in the same way as doctors can and enable him to treat a variety of eye conditions in the community. John works closely with local Ophthalmologists and GP's to offer a seamless and comprehensive service for all patients.
Independent Optometry is practiced to the absolute benefit of the patient. It places your requirements and clinical needs above all else. We have the freedom to tailor treatment plans, dedicate appropriate time to examinations, develop patient rapport on a personal level and determine the absolute best management moving forward.
